Wanted Big jon downrigger motor

I purchased a boat for the trailer and brand new volvo penta 275 outdrive and it came with two nice big jon downriggers with dual rod holders One works great but the other keeps blowin the reset when i put power to it.  I figure its gotta be a short in the motor.  If anyone has a motor layin around they dont need send me a PM and a price. Brand new they are $200 and i really dont want to spend that much if i can get a used motor somewhere.  Thank you guys. I appreciate it.  Also if you have any knowledge of these riggers and think it may be something other then Replacing the motor please let me know.  Thanks.  Mike

You could have yours rebuilt. There's a place in Rochester that can do it

Yup found them also the lord of rigger.  I search some old topics here and im definitely not the first lookin for a righer motor or rebuild.   Thanks again

I have heard that the Cisco DR replacement motors fit the BJ DR. Supposedly are better sealed and stronger. Plus cheaper. http://www.ciscofishingsystemsltd.com/shop/downrigger-motor-5166

 I had a BigJon motor rebuilt there last June. $100 and one day turnaround. Maybe cheaper in the offseason

Cisco will fit several big jon riggers. Fish USA has this motor for $139. Even cheaper if u use one of their discount offers. I would rather spend an extra 40 over a rebuild and have a new motor. They are also supposed to be stronger. Check compatibility tho.

I checked out the only one i can find at fish usa and its a planer motor and runs at 55-60RPM.  The big jon rigger motor runs at 110-115RPM. Im leaning more toward spend $100 to have it rebuilt. Dont want to take the chance of spendin $129 and it bein under powered or not fitting right.  I’m gonna look into this a little more

Go to the cisco web site. Gives the specs . Part # DRMOT. Rated for 20 lbs. I know this will work on my BJ Captains paks Which are only rated for 12 lbs.
