Has anyone ever been able to fit a 400 on a 45 reel using braid backer?

IMHO Tekota 800 is your best option out there. You can get 300yd spool of 50lb backing for a 400 copper, and 150yd spool of 50lb backing for a 500 copper.

Also, who in their right mind would use a 55 reel for a 500 copper with only 100' of backing? I have a 55 with 450ish on it and my arse puckers when a king rips that with 250' of backing on it!

I know someone. They used it only as a chute rod during tournaments. Heavy mono leader. They told me they just lock the drag down and pray.

450' of backing is plenty. That's all a Tekota 800 or Seagate 60 will hold, and I've never been close to spooled.

I meant 450 copper with 250 backing.

That's cray cray. Just get a bigger reel.
