I know that in early spring they’re in shallow water feeding on baitfish but what are they doing now postspawn? Are they still hiding in the creeks or are they back out in the lakes? Thinking of casting at some piers this weekend if there’s a chance they’d be nearby.

Piers will be iced over. Bait won’t be in until April. They will be keying on gobies in water between 20-30’. Wait on the pier thing.

Actually We are getting browns in water from 3-40’ from the time we put in until the temp gets to warm. Early spring they are looking for the warmest water they can find. So yes, the tribs, pier heads, rock jetties, sandy shorelines are the place to start.
Now you can catch them anywhere from the creeks to the lake. Some are dropping back, and some are still in the creeks gobbling up the steelie eggs!!
