Weights for spring browns

When fishing 10 to 15 Fow do you guys add a little weight to your spoons and how much. Sat through seminar and forgot what weight he said to use

I usually add a large split shot in really short water and up to 1 oz. in 20 to 25 feet.

How bout on sticks?

not if they have a diving lip, I want my bait from 3 to 6 feet below the surface in 10 to 15 feet of water.

For spoons I add a couple split shot just to get the spoon sink a bit. Sticks on the other hand have their own dive curve.

Start high, add weight or diver lips as sun gets higher

as far as you can net outta the back of the boat

Leave a tag line off your leader swivel and place split shot on tag. If you snag bottom the weights will pull off. Saves crimping and weaken leader. Remember trolling theroy of longer-higher on outside line + shorter-deeper baits on inside lines.

15-20 ‘ Gibbs weights 1/2-4 oz but typically I am headed in shallower for warmer water so maybe a 1 or 2 color core

I'm with Dawg one or two colors of core can be deadly with spoons in shallow and double nicely for stealth off a rigger later in the year

I have a 2 color core.I use snap weights off my boards all year round in local lakes for eyes and lakers early. That’s why I’m asking. Doesn’t seem like a lot of guys use them on Ontario.

Sometimes when the fish are up high I do better with short setbacks from my boards, which is tough to do with snap weights. I prefer keel sinkers that also work to stop my released inline boards from sliding down to the fish. 

 

Snap weights are difficult when fishing solo too, and there are times when I want my spoons to be right under the surface, no deeper. Tiny split shot, rubber core, and keel sinkers can be run closer to the spoon to accomplish this whereas I typically like to use snap weights further up the line so a hooked fish isn't right behind the boat when unclipping the snap weight. 

 

If you already own a bunch of snap weights then give them a try, but otherwise there are cheaper ways to skin the rabbit than buying expensive releases and risking losing them to a snag or break-off, IMHO.

Thanks Tyee  I have a bunch of lighter snap weights. I will get some split shot before I go up and try them both.

How much backer are you letting out before putting on board?
