I currently have a Lowrance Elite 7 and I've tried many different settings but cannot seem to get the sonar to show nice arc's and the downrigger weights.   Does anyone have any tips for what settings are optimal for trolling ?

Thanks,

Alex

I don't always get my dr balls if I use light weights. I use 13# pancake weights now and usually mark them. what I did on my finder to get a good arch on fish was speed the scroll up when trolling.

Arch shape is often scroll speed or transducer angle.

Not marking the balls could be transducer or cone angle. If you’re not running deep enough they won’t be in the cone because you’re only showing a small area right below the transducer. This is how it is for me shallow fishing Browns. My side imaging shows the balls but my standard sonar doesn’t. If you’re running deep then use the wider cone, I think it was 83Hz when I had my elite. You’ll pick up a much larger area and should see the balls unless there’s too much blow back.

I currently use HDS8 Gen 2.   I agree with the 83Hz comment above.   Definitely cone angle.   Also blow back.   As for arc's, ping speed up high.   Chart speed high.     I wouldn't worry too much.   Especially running deep.   Just not enough resolution on the screen.   You can try zooming in on the target range or run split screen.  You'll only see those perfect picture arc's if they're right under you cone.    I attached 2 screen shots.   Both 83hz.  One shallow, one deeper.   I was on fish both days.   Shallow was browns.   Deep salmon.

Great points and the screenshots help as well. Thanks again for the pointers. Once this weather decides to break I’ll be trying out the adjustments. !

Could also be your transducer is needs to be replaced, there is a mechanical component that can wear out.  Happened on one of my units.  Test on your trailer, should feel a click or pulse on your transducer as it fires.
