Flasher tape peeling

I have noticed on some of my Spin Doctors and pro troll flashers the tape has shrunk and peeled. Some of the tape has shrunk to half the size it was before. It happened on both brands. I got some new ones and don't want it to happen again. Granted some of these flashers were 10 years old. And I have not been on the water in a few years before I noticed it. How do you guys store your flashers. I have to believe it is something that I did so I don't do it again

Try not to leave them in the sun when not being fished. That will help.
