I was just wondering if everyone has a MMSI #? If so, do you need to put the vessel name on your boat?  I just purchased a radio capable of having this and was not exactly sure if it was something I needed when fishing lake O.

No you do not have to have a name on the boat. You only need a name and hailing port if it’s federally registered.

I have an MMSI #. It helps if your boat has a name , for communication on the radio. It is more important to have your GPS hooked into your radio. When you push the emergency button on your radio it will broadcast your co-ordinates.
