Corrosion in Mag10 STX

Last week I went to use my STX and it started to run as soon as it was plugged in. I opened the case and it was really corroded. The motor case and the circuit board had significant corrosion. I replaced the switch first with no results so now I ordered a circuit board. Is this corrosion because I store them in a unheated garage? Is it a grounding issue.( although the auto up worked before). Or is it just a poor case seal when they were made?

More than likely a bad seal on the motor housing or a cracked boot on the switch.

I don't store any of my electronic items in my unheated garage. I put that stuff in my attic, which never freezes.

 

I agree with what Gambler said about the bad seal or cracked boot.

someone on here last year had similar prob and i believe only had 1 rod holder on the rigger which left the other side with a bolt hole open right to the inside of rigger.

I'll check on the rod holders. I don't use the rod holders on the rigger because it is too high. That could be the problem plus storing them on the unheated part of my garage.

Check the decal on the top of the body- Cannon uses the same body for all models and that decal might also be a seal.  One of my Cannons had this issue and had water damage.  I drilled a small drain hole in the bottom of mine.

I put bolts with a RTV seal in the rod holder holes. That could have been a definite water leak.
