This is why we put them back and try to do our best to conserve our resources. Same 36 (ish) inch fish caught by myself and my wife 7 weeks apart.

I talked with a guy from US Fish & Wildlife once about distinctive markings on fish & he mentioned that there is software that will recognize individual fish, but it's not very good at it, as of yet. Facial recognition for fish?..hmmm, interesting

Pretty cool. Easiest recognizable marks on that fish for me are the “MT” on its cheek.

Do we now have to consider fish identity theft and privacy protection?

If the software could be perfected, maybe it could be an effective tool to supplement tagging studies.
