AWESOME! What body of water? We did a bunch of shooting on Cayuga Lake this year and had a good time. Loads of Goldeneyes and redheads and some broadbills flying. Next year I want to do the layout boat thing. I think I have the stones now.

SS I went out in the lake off Sodus. This late season I finally made it down to Cayuga and what a great spot that is, I might just bring the layout rig there next year!

Bringley, I have a camp right in Levanna. Which is on the East side. Lots of divers there. We go up and stay at the camp during the late season. Let me know if you need a place to stay. I would love to see how you do it. I saw a couple guys up there this year in layout rigs and they were laying the smack down.

SS, Ill give you a shout next year I stay with my friend south of ithaca, we hunted on the east side as well maybe we could do a layout hunt/mallard hunt next year.

How do you hunt ducks from a boat? Probably an absurd question, but don't you worry about other boat traffic, people's docks, houses etc? Do you hunt near shore, out in the middle of the lake? Do ducks hang around the shores, or do they like the open water (granted it depends on the specieis). Growing up in the Finger Lakes I've always wondered this...just curious! Not looking to criticize or for spots etc.

There are lots of diffrent ways to hunt ducks from a boat, because ducks hang around the shore and they like to be in open water as well. As for boat traffic, Oct-January is not prime time for pleasure boaters in WNY so seeing other people that are not duck hunters is often uncommon.I have found that most people remove there docks in the fall and its illegal to shoot at houses or any type of building, the DEC regs on the web site can explain this better than I can.

Does anyone know if you can waterfowl hunt on Irondequoit Bay? If so, can you only hunt from a boat or can you hunt off shore? I appreciate any input!

You can hunt from the shore or from a boat, check out the duck hunting regs in your DEC booklet. You will also see where everyone else is there that place gets a lot of pressure.

Thanks for the info! I'm new to the area and I love to duck hunt with my lab, but I don't have a boat. Are there other area's you would recommend for me to check out where you can hunt from shore?
