Hi !

Was thinking of giving ice fishing a try . What would be a good size auger to buy (4",5",6"....)?

Thanks JT

i have a eskimo mako 8" and it works great for the amount of ice we get here. i would stop in and talk to the guys at mitchells (on lake ave). they will be able to give you a great price on what ever your looking for. if your looking for a manual hand auger i have one in my garage thats 5 years old and barely used (trade me some beer and its yours).

An 8" auger is all you need around here. A 10" makes landing big pike and lakers easier when there is a lot of ice. IMO it is "little man syndrome" with most 10" auger owners.

dam it!! i just bought a 8 inch from gander last night for 40 bucks then got drunk. I should have just started a thread "anybody wanna get drunk for a hand auger" and i would have had a drinking buddy....

I'd git one bigger than 6" cause it'l be real hard ta git a hole thru when the ice gits thick...about 48" will do it.... :wondering: Hmmmm maybe thats my head :headbang: Yup, Thats what's wrong.... got thick all mixed up...Gotta git Ray ta give me a bottleinfrontame... :wait: I mean frontalabotame, Darn it Ray see what ya done ta me now..Yer kinda rubbin off on me, not in a personal way mind you :$

6 is good I got 10 but I need 12 so I can use it as a rule  and feel like a little man.

OK that's it I'm outahere
