I prefure the 8" as well. I mix up brands to see what the fish want to some part, but I own mostly the pro troll/ e-chip and spin doctors. I tend to get t tangles with the larger paddles with my smaller beamed boat.

I too like 8' Spin Docs. Speaking of that, I received for Christmas a 10' Spin doc (they got the wrong size) and before I return it for an 8' doc, is there any real difference besides the size of the rotations?

A 10' Spin Doctor or an 8' Spin Doctor will have a ton of drag. I will stick with the 8" models :D Sorry raider44 I could not resist!

I usuually run a Howie behind an 8" Hot Spot. I've always used the 11" for cut bait then in June 2007 I went out to Tofino, BC. I don't think anyone uses an 8" out there. They run an 11" trailing a fly or hoochie about 42" behind the flasher. I tried that last year & it worked well. Might be an idea since cut bait's going to be hard to find this year.

Off the divers I run an 8" Spin Doc or Pro Troll, but as Blue Knight made mention, off the deep rigger ( usually deeper than 80) I run an 11" Coyote-pearl fish scale or 11" Hot Spot-White Lightning with meat. But again as B.K. said, it is going to be hard to find the cut bait, and I didn't have the same success with the Familiar Bite. So may need to look into the fly or Hoochie, behind the Coyote and Hot Spot as well.
