How does throwing 49 million at Orleans and Niagara county fix the problem ? It doesn't ,but The Commondant says it will !   Wonder where does this money come from ,let me take a wild guess , you and me ,the taxpayers. What a crock , and this is only the beginning as Andy loves the face time he gets on TV by opening his big pie hole. Water over the bulkheads /retaining walls and into the parking lots , how do you fix that ? Higher breakwalls and building up ALL the land from one end of O to the other including all the harbors and homes . Not going to fix all that for 500 million dollars. How about this Andy , drop the level of the lake starting now , in the fall and keep dumping it until it gets to where it's supposed to be ,you taxpayer thieving moron.. Ok , I am done with my rant on Fredo's loudmouth brother !

Very well said. Should have started dumping it months ago. It’s a bath tub. Water in, water out.

This is very informative. I was unaware the NYS Governor controlled lake Ontario levels

Andy controls everything, that's what control freaks do. If the NYS Governor doesn't have any pull in this game  I would be shocked. Yes there is the IJC.and they have to answer to someone up the food chain.  Doesn't get much higher than the Governor of NYS...Your sarcasm was noted.

I'm curious as to how you will accuse the Governor of letting the lake level drop too far if he lowers it now the way you want to.

It pays to be informed before loudly expressing the mood you are in. Just for fun you should check the amount of water being released now.

I know of a politician, whom you may have voted for, who would probably try to sell all the water in the lake after promising you that he would protect the lake.

I thought that the new limits were to be up to 2 ft higher and 1 ft lower . So what's the fear of letting to much water out ? After all ,this will help the wetlands and lake ecosystem. Which was why 2014 was passed in the first place .

I wonder how much more revenue has come from the higher water levels from the hydro power ?

I also would like to know if the maximum amount of water is being released now as it is higher than normal for this time of year . This would be a,good indicator of them being serious about the situation.

Here is the outflow data for this year:

Lake Ontario Outflow Changes

Outflows from Lake Ontario are established on a weekly basis by the International Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence River Board in accordance with the current regulation plan and the International Joint Commission's Orders of Approval. Looking at that outflow chart you can see that starting in April flow was cut 8 times ending with 5600 m3/s on 4/22/19.  That is the lowest outflow of any of the years listed above. Hmm.

They had to lower the outflow because whole neighborhoods in Ottawa and Montreal were flooded.

Aware of that thank you. Mostly from excessive snow melt and rain.  Fortunately the government has issued building/rebuilding moratoriums in newly designated flood zones in Montreal area.

simply because the lake was kept to high from July through the spring, again, like a bath tub.

That doesn’t sit well with the Seaway boys that want shipping to continue as far into winter as possible. It’s all about the $$$$. If they drop the level, the ships can’t carry as much cargo and money is lost There is much more to this than we will ever know

The maximum vessel draft on the river is 26' 6". The channels are maintained at 27". If the water level is high the draft remains the same.

Correction - Vessels equipped with an approved and operational draft information system will be permitted to transit at a draft of up to 7cm above the maximum allowable draft.

And now we have come to the bottom of the issue.  Here's your truth people.  Ships are overloading ... lake levels need to be higher to ensure minimum draft is maintained in shallower areas.

Power from the SLR needed down state.... higher water flow means more power from turbines..

Indian Point, the nuclear power plant closest to New York City, could be shut as soon as April 2021 under an agreement New York state officials reached this week with Entergy, the utility company that owns the plant, according to a person with direct knowledge of the deal.

Under the agreement, one of the two nuclear reactors at Indian Point will permanently cease operations by April 2020, while the other must be closed a year later. The shutdown has long been a priority for Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, who — though supportive of upstate nuclear plants — has repeatedly called for shutting Indian Point. He has said it poses too great a risk to New York City, less than 30 miles to the south.

Hahahahaha , why limit it to those two locations ? might as well say any land touching any Ocean /  Gulf  ?Fiord ect.,  Sorry can't buy into this left wing brainwashing . Anyway what does that have to do with Ontario's now semi annual flooding ? NOTHING.

Shoreline residents on the south shore of Lake Ontario already are.
