Here is a 77 that has the mark of a third seven. The spoon is the shape of an 88 (see third picture for comparison) but slightly smaller. I had never noticed the third 7.IMG_0789.JPGIMG_0788.JPGIMG_0790.JPG

The Sutton logo (777) is the third generation logo. This is thought to be when Jack Stafford purchased the tooling to make Sutton’s.

Generation 1
Scott R. Sutton 1864-1911

Generation 2
George Wells 1911-1929

Generation 3
Jack Stafford 1930-?

Generation 4
Jack, Jim and Jeanne Stafford
(It is rumored that Jack or Jim had a hard time hand stamping the spoon numbers in the center of the logo so they redesigned the logo to make stamping spoon numbers more efficient)

I have been preoccupied with the COVID so had not checked here in quite some time.  This is the best Thread I have seen on this site, so much information on the history, I had no idea the company went back so far.  Thank you all for this great work on preserving a significant portion of Finger Lakes History.

Sutton's are very near and dear to my heart too and my grandfather used them extensively on Seneca Lake (around 1910 or so Generation 1 in every sense of the word I guess) but I have always been unclear on just when they started up etc. and the history. Thanks Mark You are "the man" when it comes to the Sutton's:smile:

Here are photos of the No. 777.

I have also attached an image of my No. 4, which has a different type of stamping.  It is Generation 4, but the stamping is rotated lengthwise to the spoon and is the only spoon I have seen stamped that way.  The number is also beneath the text.  Unfortunately the image is not the best.

Cinnamon PM me your address I will send you a 71

Fishstix, I received the Sutton 71, thanks so much again, really kind of you.  I see it's one of the heavier weight Suttons which I didn't have any of in that size.  I look fwd to running it.  Will let you know if/when it produces.
