How Much Backing?

Hey guys.

If a reel holds say 200yds of 20# mono and I want to spool it with some mono backing plus 300yds of 30# Power Pro, is there any way to figure out how much backing is required so the PP fills the reel?

Take an identical empty reel, spool on the power pro, then your mono. Then spool it back onto the other reel. Count your passes when you are reeling on the mono.

Then you'll have the recipe for that reel for future use.

Ya I thought of that Miss em. Except, I don't have an identical empty reel.

I thought that mono can "rot" when used as backing, I have no experience w/ using mono backing, maybe somebody will comment on this? On my super braid diver rods I just spooled on the braid w/ out backing.
