Hi !

Looking to buy some wire to put together a couple dipsy rods. Been looking at AFW, Malin and Mason.

Is there a big difference between them ? Thanks for any info !!

JT

P.S. color matter ?

I think color make s a difference. I personally run AFW 7-strand 30 lb in camo. It has a thinner diameter than their bright line and is just .001" thicker than their 20lb line. You'll be able to reach deeper depths with a smaller diameter line. I'd check Malin and Mason out to see what their diameters are too. We've been very happy with the AFW line that we run.

As long as you take care of your wire rods you shouldnt have a problem with any of them. Keep tension on the wire at all times(I never brake down my 2 pc wire rods), make solid connections, have drags set right etc.

I have had better luck with AFW and the mailin vs the mason. The mason seemed to coil up and kink but could have been a bad batch I had... just my 2 cents

AFW is thinner in diameter than Malin or Mason. This matters in your depth curve a little I would guess. Its also camo in color, which I think helps too.

You guys really think the color of the wire matters? If you run 8' leaders to a flasher and then the leader to the fly, you are 10' + or - from the wire. IMO it does not matter.

In my opinion the color definitely matters because the diameter of the camo line is a few thousandths smaller and you can get deeper with it than you can with the bright line.
