Hybrid between NP and Musky?

Edited by Sk8man

Looks very unusual. Looks like a tiger that has had it's markings remove, cut up and then sprinkled back on. But I thank Ronix 51 for his professional explanation. A DNA analysis might have been interesting.

Guess I need to read more carefully before throwing my 2 cents in

That looks like a European pike and if you look at the jacket he's wearing it would also appear to eke that out. See this photo for similar:

They are pretty magnificent "beasts" aren't they?

I would tip it over and count the pours under it chin. Pike and Muskies have a different number of pours I don't catch nice fish like that so you will have to check a fish book to find the number of each.

My guess is its a reverse cross between a female Pike and Male Musky. The reverse of a Tiger Musky. Years ago they stocked them and the were called Norlunge. Cool coloring regardless. Hope it was released.

There is some natural cross breeding of Pike & Musky in large river systems , like the Niagara River & the St. Lawrance. I'm guessing that awesome fish could be a natural hybrid. Either way a Gem of a fish, that I would be proud of.  Replica Mount would be cool. The fact that a lady caught that fish is cool too, because my wife & twin daughters loves to fish also.

The spots and coloring are typical of a pike. Like any fish slight variations exist, even seen a few with a blue background in Canada. I believe it's a very nice sized regular northern pike.
