I don't care where your fishing but I wouldn't mind knowing what your reasoning is..what your set up is. If your putting it up on You Tube your wanting people to watch. Maybe just me but 15 minutes of netting and bashing fish doesn't do it.

Which is why I stopped watching a lot of the fishing shows

In Fisherman and some others are good but most are a waste of my time .

I want to see what your using, Hear why your using it , AND NOT JUST WATCH PEOPLE WINDING STRING

There are different types of fishing videos on Youtube imo… there are fishing SHOWS and fishing VIDEOS. Fishing shows are sponsor heavy and I think they tend to use and do things in a way to promote sponsored items that may or may not be how they would normally fish. Now nothing against them, it's their job and they want to keep sponsors happy as that is where the majority of their money comes from. Then there are fishing videos, these are people who are more focused on content as they make their money from ad revenue and more views equals more money. These are guys who go in depth into techniques and equipment because they usually don't have large sponsorships they tend use equipment they prefer and techniques they actually believe work. These sometimes tend to be the more "clickbait" type video titles but they are usually pretty good content-wise. Then there is a smaller section of people that do it all for fun. They want to capture something they enjoy and even teach/help others with things they have found. These people's videos don't tend to be the first ones that come up in a search as they have lower subscription counts and their videos aren't as polished. But these tend to can be some of the best videos imo.

There are a lot of good fishing videos on YT, you just have to pick the right ones. Some of the best great lakes fishing videos I have watched on YT are made by members here, Fishin' Physician assistant, Russell's fishing tech, Dan the fisher, among others.

I like to watch regional fishing videos and guess where they are at and at what time of year.  I also like watching the Florida fishing channels with the ladies wearing bikinis.  I know they were on boats and I think they had fishing poles but don't ask me what they were using or what they were catching.  I don't remember that part.

There are some people on here that would be fun watching and listening too.  Some old and some young.  A lot of talent on this site.

I was recently put on to a you tube series called 39 hours.

It's a multi species(truly multi species) tournament between 3 teams in the first season. 4 teams in the second. They are still releasing segments for season 2.

I binged it all to catch up this weekend.

That's one I actually like...... it's the ones that just show fish being netted and hitting the floor with no dialogue and someones idea of music that irk me especially now that you tube is starting to proceed things with a 4 minute commercial

That statement above exactly describes my videos LOL!  Not everyone is on these forums to help others out or to accelerate others learning curves.  It's a big lake - but if I have a hot rig I'm keeping it to myself for the most part (maybe share with a select few) but certainly not showing it in videos.  If you look hard you might see a few things - but most of it I will edit out.  Plenty of "how-to" videos out there if you search.  If you want an intimate look at the how's and why's there are several great charter captains who would be happy to have you book a trip - a good charter can shorten your learning curve immensely.

A successful group of "old timers" would meet to talk and fish together of fishing. Their number one rule was to say nothing to anyone outside of the group. Never share anything. Rule number two was you could only drink at one tavern as under the influence of alcohol you talk too much. There you go.

Thankfully you are in the minority on this forum. If you're obviously so secretive about your fishing techniques why even make videos then? Seems like a much safer way to protect your "hot rig" is to just leave the cameras at home? Imagine what would happen if you missed an edit and someone saw your "hot rig", they would almost certainly catch fish that would have been yours otherwise...

So I've never been without my own boat ( or 2 or 3 ) for the past 60 years since building my first at age 17 a15 foot runabout with a 18 hp motor. Since then I have owned everything from 12 to 36 feet. I fished muskies almost exclusively for 35 years. Along the way I showed many a newby some of the things others had shared with me and some discoveries I had made on my own. Some were family, some co workers and some just people I would meet at the ramp who told me they were struggling to find some success, and who later became lifelong friends and fishing partners. I fully expect in the not so distant future they will be helping me into their boats and taking me fishing.

I have only started salmon fishing in the last 4 or 5 years but had previously done a fair bit of lake trout fishing prior to the musky season (early spring shallow )

It was suggested by someone that i should take a charter to learn. Actually although I have never hired a charter for salmon I have a couple of friends that charter and have often jumped aboard when they had a cancelation and would throw in gas money or buy lunch. Out of necessity charter guys have a different mindset wanting to run the boat and having clients wind string .Having my own boat and wanting to do my own thing I've had some decent success never running more than 4 rods or usually having no  more than one other person on board. I have my own program that either works or doesn't depending on the day but do like to bounce ideas off others. I feel the future of the sport depends on bringing young people and beginners of all ages into the fold.

All I initially said was I like to see videos that contain more than reeling in fish and dumping them on the floor to a loop of music.

When someone asks a question it's not necessarily because they don't know the answer but sometimes there's more than one correct answer.

Any psychologists on here?  I was just thinking you could psychoanalyze a person by how they use YouTube.  That would make a good college course.

There are a lot of helpful people on this forum - I might not be helpful in this specific example but I help a lot of people out in a lot of different ways.  whether it's taking the time to help a transient on our dock rig his stuff up to catch (right lead lengths and putting together combos that work, or talking to seasoned guys about current breaks and moving temps) I do my part.  I make videos because some people just like watching them and I enjoy recording the moment and if you pick a few things out of it cool.  All I'm saying is we fish a few tournaments and believe it or not sometimes one rig makes all the difference between cashing a check and finishing out of the money. multiple examples of that from personal experience.   I'm more than helpful to those I know.  There are a lot of people who shorten their learning curve by buddying up with someone on a forum and that's cool and I have no problems with that.   Fisherman as a whole are pretty secretive from my observations - at our dock the guys coming in with the biggest coolers never have their rigs or spoons on their rods when they come to the dock - part of the competitive nature in a port and on a dock that contains arguably some of the best fisherman on the lake.  I know a lot of people think the main purpose of these forums is to "help each other out" - I guess I don't look at it like that.  I contribute in some ways and not in others.  Everyone is different. As long as you are a net positive to the forum that's good enough.  The worst guys are those who are here just to sponge stuff up and never offer anything up.....

These guys definitely put out some good videos.
I spent the last week pullin the motor out of my 25ft trophy, rebuilding and putting it back together, along with other maintenance for the upcoming season. Meanwhile the 60” in the garage is playin these guys videos

This is my 4th year on Lake Ontario and knew nothin when i started. The little bit of knowledge i got came from a handfull of videos and members from this site

Nobody gets to fish as much as they'd like.  And here we are, midwinter, with weeks or months to go before our first launch.  My favorite kind of video or post is one that really puts you on the water.  Images or descriptions that are so vivid you are transported to the lake or stream.  This can be hard to do, despite the producer or author's best intentions.  That's why the really sublime videos are rare.  But they are out there if you look.

Maybe for same reason that the Kardashians are everywhere on the internet, and Stormy Daniels was out there getting indignant about the Prez!   And, enough hits, there be some money there!

There is a reason it is called Fishporn!
