Hello all. My friend from Idaho wants to come and spend a week Salmon Fishing and I'm trying to decide what week would be best. Two years ago he came the last week of July. We did pretty good, but I thought I should have had him come earlier. Please share your recommendation. I realize there's no guarantee as far as weather goes, but generally, what do you think? I fish out of OLCOTT.  Thanks.

Any time the water is open, this time of year near shore with J13's works well till about 8:00 AM when the sun comes up. Then move out to 50 foot of water with slow trolled light weight spoons.

I should have told you in the original post, I fish out of OLCOTT.

The Kings stage in August offshore in 120 foot on the bottom. Waiting to spawn there and when cold nights cool off the creek, they will then move up to ascend to spawn.

From Rochester to Niagara it's tough to beat July. If you wanted to come in May Olcott/Wilson are great choices.

The Niagara River is the greatest source for plankton that feed the bait fish forage source. A good start is any where near there and eastward where the current flows.

I've never had as good of luck in August off Olcott as I have earlier in the summer. I have no luck at all getting the staging Salmon to bite!

August off olcott is typically an “offshore” bite until the final week.
