I am upgrading my dipsy reels to either braided or wire. I am concerned about the guide wear with wire. As for braid, what #lb test is recommended? I see the benefits with braided or wire. Thanks in advance for the advice.

My vote is for wire. Because of the fleas. Guide wear can be a problem, however there are some excellent suggestions under "dipsy rods... check your guides" SOME of the comments are useful.

The photo below are guides just replaced on a 9' Cabela's diver rod. Rods are nice, guides are not. About 4 or 5 years use.

each has its plus's and minus's. I am going to be running two of each this year... As for braid I run 50lb power pro..30lb PP would be just fine but the 50 is only 12lb diameter so i opt for the extra heft (and I like the 50lb for some other applications so its just easier to buy one kind).. If your going to choose just one go with wire.

Thanks so much. I forgot about Fleas in Lake O... I do not have the problem on Lake Champlain YET and I hope not. I am thinking of setting up two rods with wire and two

braid.

As for the guides, I have read so much and plan to update my dipsy 9.5' rod to high end

guides. Spring is around the corner and I am ready to go....

Thanks again ALL.....

If your fishing any lake with a large flea population, do not use braid! but if your fishing waters without fleas braid is a very good type of line, i like 30lb test
