I picked up a used teak swim platform for 25$ with the stainless brackets and all. A real steal for sure. Now, is there a set height to mount this? I plan on putting a cooler on it. The boat it is going on is a Penn Yan 245 Contender. I want it to be right so I wasn't sure if there were any basic rules or if just were ever it looks good is ok.

I maybe a little late, but you need to conceder the outdrive fully extended height when mounting a full transom platform.

You also need to figure out if you want to mount a cooler on it, it will need to be a little higher ( usually) to make it easy to access the lid.

If you plan on putting over 250lbs on it, I would also think about SS plates on the mounts to help spread the load on the gel-coat.

I use 3M 5200 for sealing above and below the waterline.

2 cents,

Make sure you mount it high enough so you can reach it from inside your boat. I have the same Penn Yan, and my platform is basically 2" - 3" above the waterline, and if I put my cooler on it, it is a pretty far reach down to it.
