Bert's ratcheting rod holders- 2 designs??

Over the winter I bought 2 Berts ratcheting rod holders from someone on LOU, and I noticed last week while fishing that they don't pull up with a 1-hand retrieve like my other 2 do.  You have to pull the lever to get the rod holder to raise up.  Is something wrong with them or are there 2 different designs/models out there?  The look exactly the same...

Mine did the same after a couple years. Spray them up with some white lithium grease or something similar

I had one that was like that and the rod holder was in it backwards ..look at the notches one side is a little rounded the other is square ..I had to take the pin out and turn one around and then it worked fine

Sorry picture did not attach the first time but you can see what I mean. The slopped side should face the release handle ..one of mine was backwards.

Yep . A little lube. If they stay on the boat not covered with a boat cover the dust and dirt sticks to the lube and will start to get rough , then clean lube repeat.
It's just what they are.

The Bert’s rod holder is reversible- one side allows it to ratchet and the other you have to unlock to pull up.  You pull the c clip to pull pin and the lock mechanism then flip the rod holder around.  The teeth on the bottom are configured differently to allow for this.  Designed that way.

Turns out they were just really dry...A little white lithium on the dogs and WD40 in the pivots and they ratchet like new!
