Just read an article that evinrude is discontinuing production of outboards permanently, Wow.

I have a 3 yr old etec. Love this motor. Sucks. Hopefully they keep makin parts

Years ago they were. Johnson name was dropped about 10 years ago. Previous to that they were selling rebadged Suzuki 4 strokes for a while. Hate to see Etec go. Was interested in that new 3 cyl 150. Looked like a super efficient engine.

It's too bad. Owned a 2006 115 hp etec for 11 years and loved it. Put about 100 hrs a year on it, mostly trolling hrs. Only took it into the dealer every 3 years. Replaced boat and motor two years ago with a Almacraft and a Yamaha 4 stroke. Looked for boats with an etec but couldn't find much around here. It seems to be a choice of Mercury or Yamaha.

Despite etech’s excellent track record on reliability and safety towards the environment, there have been rumors that states were considering the banning of non-four strokes for water quality. I think those rumors spooked potential buyers.

My 2002 Evinrude 90 hp served me for 26 years till the water pump impeller started to fail . God bless Evinrude, I am going to miss you.
