I was told by one of the local DMV workers that if you do your registration on line the state gets all of the money, but if you register your trailer at the County DMV they get part of the money for the County to use. Does anyone know if that is correct?

I believe that is correct with any vehicle registration. If I send mine in to Wayne County I get a hand written "thank you" note in the envelope with the new registration.

What J F says and also if you don't want to hand carry a renewal just mail it to your local county run DMV and save the leg work.

If you pay in person you only pay the months left in the year. Not the full year.

Actually that's also true if you renew on the dmv website, they pro-rate it no matter what.

Thanks for the "head's up"! I was gonna re-register mine on line tonight, but I'll do it local now.

Thanks,

I usually register both trailers on-line about a week in advance of first use of the season. I print out the confirmation and carry that, then wait for the registration to come in the mail. Haven't been checked yet so I can't guarantee it wouldn't be a problem with authorities. It's pro-rated so I'm not paying for the months when the boats are sitting on the trailers in 3 feet of snow. This saves a few $ but I'm sure even this small break will be non-existent soon.
