skipper, emerald shiners w/ three way rig. There wasnt too much ice, you drift so you just kind of move with the ice. Some of those chunks are huge they look like they are a couple feet thick.

Looks like you were in the traditional spot at the tail out in front of the green bouy. They are fun on light tackle. A totally different fish than the ones you drag off the bottom trolling.......full of piss and vinegar. God willing, I will be out there next weekend if I can convince my brother to get his slyvan de-winterized. How was the launch?

the launch was fine alittle ice at bottom. I also always hear people say they dont fight good, but man tose two fish fought great very very strong, i thought both fish were gonna be bigger than they were. I was using six pound floro (optima)

How deep are the lakers usually? Are they up on top of the bar? I've never fished for them this time of year and the pictures have my curiosity working. I may have to try for them next weekend.

One was taken just on top of the drop off in 20 foot and the other was on the drop in about 30 foot. Lost another big fish around 30 to 40 feet also. It goes from 70 to 20 feet really fast.

When the wind is behaving, most guys will start their drift on the tail of the hole, and drift with the current up the back of the hole onto the 20' flat which starts the "bar". Stay with the drift onto the bar for awhile. The biggest concentration is in front of the green buoy, but it can get crowded so extending your drift in different directions on the flat will often pay dividends and less lost tackle.
