Fishing the Lower Niagara River From Shore This Time of Year?

Sort of Lake Ontario related...

 

I've never fished the lower from shore this time of year... Have any of you done it (was thinking of checking out the Artpark area)? I'd figure there's smallmouth and such but am concerned about there being a lot of weeds to the point where it's unfishable.

 

Any advice would be great.

Depends on where you fish, art park is usually pretty free off weeds.
