Lower Niagara Salmon Fishing - Kwikfish replacement

HI All,

 

I grew up fishing the lower Niagara from a boat for lake run fish.  We used to either drift eggs or pull K9 Kwikfish (Trout) or K11 (Salmon).  I am not seeing Kwikfish in these sizes anymore.  What are people using these days?

We've caught a few Mature Kings in front of the Genesee on K15s....

 

Wow though - you are right - I ran a quick internet search and the sizes seem to go from 7 straight to 14.  Maybe try the Yakima Mag Lips for those kind of sizes?

Or the Worden's Flatfish comes in 3-1/4 length

I haven’t  in the river but Maglips behind boards did well for me in early spring this year

They still have them...they are the 11x now...fishusa has them...just not many left in stock

I fish the east end but Maglips are my goto. 3.5 for kings right now.

Also we used to take the Kwikfish and put a larger hook on the back.  It would give it a wider wobble and was a lot more effective.  Anything similar with these mag lips?

I pull the front hook off and just run the back trebble in both. I run them both on three way swivels usually 6' leaders and 10" droppers to big pencil weights.....dont know the size weights but get them from creek rd bait and tackle.

Almost all my kings come on the 3.5 Grinch. I’ve tried a few colors from 3.0-5.0 and always come back to that mid sized grinch.

For anyone else following this I bought a handful for Mag Lip 3.0s on the suggestions here.  Availability was limited so I also got a couple 3.5s.  

 

The 3.0s are more like the old K9 kwikfish and what I would consider trout size.  The 3.5 is more like the K11s and a more appropriate size for Salmon.

I'm looking to try devils hole from shore, went to the Olcott pier the other night and there was 100 guys, fished from 6Pm to 2am and only saw 4-5 fish caught.

When we fished Fall river Kings in Alaska, the most used lures were Hot and Tots along with Wiggle Warts.casting them out, rapid cranking to get them deep, slow cranking back to the boat or shore. Possession of salmon eggs then is a violation.
