Navico / Simrad AP 12 Cable drive steering head

I am reaching out to learn if I can use the existing AP 12 helm with any newer autopilot systems as the AP 12 is no longer serviced. My unit works but wanders more than I like and wanted to get a tighter running system. The steering head works perfectly, looks just like the "Octopus" helms and it certainly would be cheaper than having to buy a new one. Any suggestions / advice would be great. Thanks
