Looking to buy a couple new dipsey rods . My boat is a 19 fter. I am currently running 9ft med. light action ugly sticks. They seem to light. What length and action would be best for my application for salmon. Also do they specifically have to be wire rods . Thanks

I like 8’6” Diawa Wilderness in Medium Heavy. On sale at FishUSA for $17. They have enough backbone to drag a dipsy and not be bent around too much.

We've been running the Daiwa Great Lakes diver rods for a few years now. No complaints here. We've run their wire rods with rollers and they are a bit beefier and much heavier in the hand, so we sidelined those. The models we're currently running are GL902MHR and GL962MHR

You can buy them at FishUSA - fishusa.rv5k.net/knnaL

Yankee I actually looked at them last night in our local store . They feel like a real decent rod.

I had the same question Ryan. Rick sent me the link from fish USA  for the diawa diver rods and they were out of stock a few weeks and came back in a week ago. Just got them in and paired them up with Diawa sealine 47sg reels. Definitely a solid setup for under $200

I ended up going with the Great Lakes 902 rod. Feels like a nice setup. Should definitely be better than the ugly stick med light that I am running currently. Definitely not enough rod for wire dipseys.

I run 10' Eagle Claws. For the money I don't think you can beat them.

Wooden poles? Or have they changed that?

I snapped 2 Eagle Claws after 1 year of use, one on a laker, another on a big king. Snapped right above

the first eyelet. I swore I'd never buy Eagle Claws again after that.
