Wire or braid for annual trip?

Having moved west I don’t get but a week or two of Great Lakes trolling. Growing up we used mono. For a diver rod set up, if you had to choose, which one wire or braid? I am comfortable with rigging either,  Thank you

Go with wire. Although the water fleas can attach to anything but braid gets the worst infestations and it is harder to remove them from it.

Braid has been catching fish for us and easier to use IMO !

Luckily the fleas have been pretty spotty this season thus far but it will only take one experience of a dense concentration of the fishhook type fleas while reeling in a king or steelie to fully appreciate the comment.

The majority of stress and rubbing of the wire should be at the tip

Thanks, I have used single strand for Muskie, but will be first time with the braided wire. Appreciate he help.

Have,used both braid and wire 

 

Now I use just braid . 

 

I catch just as,much and it is more forgiving . I use 65# power,pro but some guys use 80 or 100 .

If it makes a difference this will mostly be in Lake Michigan, I fish out of my uncles boat when we are on Lake Ontario. Thank you

This is a good example of the personal preference issue which threads through many discussions on here. You have two different views by very experienced fishermen that each have good reasons for their views which reflect their own experiences with both types of line and they prefer one over the other the other. In short, there is no "one size fits all" answer to this as it comes down to what you feel more comfortable with, or may have had better results with in the past. So it basically comes down to either trying out each and making a determination based on their performance in your situation, or "winging it"

We had some bad experience with braid on our rigger rods fishing out of Oclott a couple of weeks ago. Braid is far easier to manage but when fleas are thrown into the equation wire worked without a issue.
