9:30 this morning on state land Catt County. Old battle scarred 9 pointer with some stickers. He was blind in one eye and had a pus pocket wound on his forehead. Easy down hill drag to the creek for a little bath before going for a ride back to camp

After not being able to compose himself and shoot a decent buck, Brayden shot this doe this morning!  He got a true dose of buck fever and couldn’t hold the crosshairs on a nice 8.  I stopped him 3 times in the field.  I’m proud he didn’t take the shot when he couldn’t stay on him.

It was a beautiful day in the woods. Got in the stand around 530AM and hunted until dark. It was a great day in the woods and I was able to capitalize on a nice doe around 4PM. Didn’t see a ton of deer, but still a great day to be out!

Crazy, but I saw zero deer today. Hunted the swamp this morning and the edge of a hay field this afternoon. They cut corn the past few days up front, and every deer in the neighborhood was partying like it was 1999 up there. It didn't help that the neighbor drove an ATV out from his stand at 4:30 through a swamp and creek directly upwind of me. So much for my expectation of evening movement.

Our two youngest were the shooters today - Brayden got that doe, and Jeff's kid Caleb took what should have been an eight, but due to fighting was a five. The rest of us were just glad to be there...

Opening day gun season...

Lots of deer seen throughout the day. 40+. 7 total bucks but every one of them was a year and half old. Lots of fawns by themselves yesterday. Two sure signs the lockdown is in full swing.

Congrats to everyone who has scored this season! I had two great opportunities at shooters during Bow and blew both [emoji22][emoji1787]. Had another I couldn't stop for the shot as he was on a mission. Opening day I saw 6 mature Does and 2 fawns before this guy came along at 11am. Shot him at 40 yards. Good Luck to all out now! Last day buck , opening day bucks.
Last day of Bow I got into the stand early. Around 7 I heard a doe blee .... But nothing that way. 30 min later I hear a stick break over that way and look. I see a doe with a nice buck behind her at 45 yards. He stood there for a hour and 45 minutes. Just standing there staring at me the whole time and he is upwind. I think he has me skylined . Not sure where the doe ever ended up going, but he walked five yards closer but then angled going away. But stopped quartered away Looking back hard at me. Now or never... I shoot and hit him perfect in front of the guts and to the opposite shoulder. He ran 80 yards and fell over .

Opening day I go to the same tree stand hoping that doe is still in that thicket. Well 650 in the morning I had a doe bust me and stand there only 1 thing to do now. Bang! A good hour and a half goes by . I hear something behind me and all I see is tines in the golden rod . He's following a doe no time to think I pull up and shoot. He does a loop and his antlers catch the ground and he flips dead on my pathway..... Unbelievable 2 years in a row last day of Bow opening day of gun same tree same spot.

Opening day afternoon hunt with the wife at my lease. We got to the blind and all set up , heater on , gun in the bipod took my hands off the bipod looked out the window and said there's your buck out there now LMFAO. She has an antler restriction bigger than a 4. Well he's bigger than 4. He's out at 132 yards . I said whenever your ready. Bang ! The deer runs 20 and falls over in the field !!!! Perfect heart shot !

Lots of action this morning just not nothing to shoot at. Saw about 15 or so with 3 of them being bucks. All youngsters.

A bit of shooting right around daybreak but after that it was very quiet. Certainly no where near as much shooting as yesterday. Headed home today at 11 and never saw another hunter.

I don't often post pictures but this was definitely one of the most memorable opening days for me. My dad was able to take one of his biggest bucks next to my uncle's tree stand, who passed away earlier this fall. And my daughter was able to shoot her first deer.
