Removing paint from old sppons

Hi all,

 

first post on here. I inherited 50 or so old daredevil type lures, all red and white. I want to strip the paint and use different color paints and tapes on them. Anyone else done this? What did you use to get the old paint off?

Soak them in acetone.  Scrub the remaining paint off with a scotchbrite pad.

Paint them over with white and go from there with the colors you want

I’m thinking that’s the easiest way to it, prep and prime white?

You might want to scuff up the existing paint slightly with something like Scotchbright though so the new will adhere properly. Just enough to dull the existing finish.

I use a good zip strip that will take off epoxy.  

 

You can use super fine steel wool to finish clean and also shine Chrome but not real.silver . Use silver polish for that.  

 

Spray  Rustolium works . 

 

 

 

You can make them like new .

Ditto on the super fine steel wool ; allows the new paint to stick better ! If you can add a  " harder " to the paint and start with a primer coat if you can !

Boil them in water with white vinegar. 1/4 cup vinegar to a quart of water.

I second the boiling followed by a dunk in ice water.
