Motor starts and idles fine, but when shifting the idle drops out and stalls quite often. If shifted quickly to get the rmp back up it will be alright. Makes for tough docking. Any ideas?

thanks

I had an inlie 6 merc that would do that. Ended up replacing the distributer, Not the cap, the whole thing. That took care of it. I don't know how old yours is but I had points and such. Put in electronic ignition and it never happened again.

Thats not a bad idea. Mine has the electronic ignition on it but maybe a new one would work better. I thought maybe the idle could be set too low but I'm not sure.

Hi !

If you look on the engine where the shift and throttle cables mount there is a switch that kills the spark when you shift to help gears engage . you might want to ck it out.

I am at work right now and cant get to check out that switch until later, but is it possible from trolling that this switch could wear out from running so much at just engauged in the shift position?

You guys are great. I'll get to it this week and adjust the shift cable. Hopefully that solves the issue and I wont have to replace anything. Again, thank you.

I think L&M is right.

It is the beginning of the end. You can adjust it for a while but a new one is on the horizon.

Not the end of the world just normal wear and tear.

While your having it replaced look closely at your bellows they will be next :)
