Everyone should get off the Facebook, Twitter, TicTok etc. All they do is (pardon the pun) spoonfeed you with garbage using their algorithms, based on what they have enticed you previously, to look at. For them, the more divisive, the better. All they care about and what gets more clicks, eyeballs, advertisers and ultimately money and power. And many of the most divisive people on those platforms are only interested in clicks likes and fake friends and followers. It is their brand and how they make a living and the more divisive and/or controversial, the better. Some of them are Russians. Some of them are Chinese. Some of them think they are Journalists and try to steer people to their fake internet (ideological, opinion only) shock news outlets. Some of them are Iranians and others. Many of them are Americans, US politicians and 'want to be' US politicians who are misguided and have lost their way and they do nothing but hurt the country with their divisiveness. THEY ARE THE ABSOLUTELY LAST PLACES TO GO FOR REAL NEWS.

And Sk8man is right on. China has been waging an economic war against the US since the 90s which has helped position themselves to try and take over the world which may include a more serious war in the near future. Our big Corporations never should have (I hope this doesn't get censored) gone to bed with them. The correct term for them is a Communistic Autocracy. Our economy needs to start working more against them than with them as much as we can and redefine our economic relationship with them.

PS: the biggest problem in this country is that the big corporations, multi billionaires and Wall Street are being allowed to control Washington, mostly hiding behind ideologies.

Let's get back to fishing now!!

Ya right. Now what does this BS have to do with rising gas prices?

I am not going to go back and forth with you and this is the last time I will post on this thread. NOT EVERYTHING IS POLITICAL, and this is not. So you need to take off your political hat and look at the facts for reasons gas prices have gone up, many of which others have mentioned in this thread. Some are due to what oil companies and refiners are doing. Some due to market factors. Some are because disruptions due to COVID-19, oil infrastructure issues, logistics (such as shipping and distribution issues) and weather events. Many of the same things that are affecting distribution and prices of all goods and services. Mostly because of the WORLD WIDE PANDEMIC. So if you need to point blame,  BLAME IT ON COVID!!

It clearly says: "Add to that the Pandemic"

so I was not wrong,

Oh, about CNN, I use them for news. For understanding it I use NPR

The last time I looked at a map , the Dakotas were in the US. Domestic oil. Not begging the shieks and Putin to increase production at any cost   The voters sent a message at the polls yesterday. And I can only hope the liberal agenda is going the way of the Dino 🦕

Wrong. I have put considerable time into researching the reasons for the gas price increase, My livelihood depends on it  both on and off the water. A couple of the things you mention are without a doubt contributing factors but not the main cause. The main reason is our loss of energy independence due to federal policy. Two months of signing executive orders and undoing the accomplishments of the previous administration are to blame. Same reason our southern border is now unsecured. Or is that "facebook misinformation" fault as well?

Now there is a great response. Feel free to explain why the price of fuel is so high since I'm just a fool.

Here you go, they called it back in January. and it all turned out to be accurate.

Forums are a place for the discussion of ideas and opinions and it is expected that they may differ  or diverge from a central idea or concern but a necessary underlying rule or expectation is that respect is shown for each person separate from agreement or disagreement with their particular position regarding an issue or idea. Respect for each other appears to be on the decline and resorting to name calling sure doesn't help clarify any issues or ideas or add to an intelligent conversation.

Great point. My first response to this was defensive and I had to edit it after I read it this morning. I'm glad I did for those exact reasons.

Guys since getting hurt at work I unfortunately have had my eyes opened so much.. here we go, the media and the politicians want to keep us arguing with each other, they all say they care about “the people”, no they don’t they are all crooks and if they keep us arguing they can continue filling their pockets ..  pretty simple to figure it out , we need to be one whole body of people not Liberals and Conservatives, but the politicians don’t want us to do this.. but we are pretty damn close to becoming one , after this election we are starting to see these criminals for who they truly are, Criminals,. and another thing IMO every single reality show is on television is all brought to you by the politicians, why, it’s easier to watch “honey boo boo” than CNN or FOX, it’s too Toxic…. I did not think that I would come back to this thread because it is so filled with prejudice and lack of knowledge. Anyway, here goes.

Oil prices were down very much because of over production in the tar sands of the Dakotas. Add to that the pandemic which depressed demand worldwide. In fact a lot of small oil companies specially the ones that produced oil from tar sands went belly up , although production in those areas is starting up again because oil on the world markets has risen above $80 per barrel

Demand is rising worldwide , but opec holds production down and the prices go up worldwide.

The oil prices in the USA are not independent from world oil prices. In fact the USA oil prices are the exact same as the world oil prices. If demand in China goes up, world oil prices go up and that includes USA oil prices at the gas station. There is no oil shortage in the USA, but big oil will sell to the American market at the world spot price rate which is decided in London and Rotterdam.

So please do not get dragged along by planted misinformation, because it just does not help you in any way.

Well said Rollmops. These folks that want to blame inflated gasoline prices on a single person haven’t taken the time to discover that the US exports oil. They are also the same people that are not complaining that the stock market is at an all time high. Can that be blamed on the same person ?  Double standard  ?

Anyone have a fishing report ?

This was posted under “Open Lake Discussion “. For Pete’s sake this is the one place where we can go to escape the real world. Both sides are getting played by pundits. Pundits that have never held a day in office or even served in the military. Opinion pieces. Half facts. Start developing an independent mind. Watch more than one news station, and if you view something that will only serve to make you miserable, send a message to those making money off sewing division…… turn off the news. One nation under ONE flag.

Yeah , stick your head in the sand . That ought to do it .

Problem is , what's going on is not being talked about enough .

The wolf is at the door .

I knew when I posted this that some would not like political stuff on here , but it needs to be discussed daily . With everyone .

I remember seeing a documentary a few years ago about the pipeline and how scary it has been constructed under Lake Michigan. Hopefully they are shutting it down to shore it up and not shutting it down for good. The documentary showed how a looming environmental disaster is coming without engineering controls.

Fox News doesn’t say anything about why it needs to be shut down. Again half truths.

I watched the same documentary , from what I remember the pipe line was shoddy from day one. Why shut it down now with winter coming except to punish people who burn fossil fuels? Just another way to push the agenda.

The writing was on the wall when Aramco went public-that was a Royal family dumping shares on the public, a quiet selling off of the most profitable company in our lifetimes b/c they knew the agenda, not markets were going to change.  This transition from fossil fuels to renewables is happening by brute force. It’s being sold to us as a need to save the world, or whatever else they say, but like anything it is their agenda and their bottom line in the end and we are not privy to the truth. We Americans are in deep deep trouble because our lifestyles have been floated upon the dollar being a world currency reserve, which only had that spot due to its denomination as the only currency to be used for fossil fuel trade. Countries around the world are ditching it as fast as they can, and who could blame them. Do you have any confidence in this country being able to honor its debt? Behind age, poverty is the leading indicator for health and longevity. With inflation, job loss, and disarray normalizing in this controlled demolition, please do not side with powers that use force and coercion and instead choose the path of love, even for your enemy. God help us.

The tax bill sitting on floor of the house has provisions to address the fact that billionaires are paying zero tax. The tax plan pays for the two trillion ten year spending on the infrastructure bill.

The US is in inescapable debt. There is not one single thing we could do to pay it off. It is perpetual by design. Having a balanced budget is entirely different than what we owe for having to borrow in the first place. You cannot escape interest when all money in circulation exists from a loan.
