Caught the biggest Brown Trout on a Owasco Lake Saturday 3/19/22 that I've ever seen. After an hour fight and the 14 foot boat boat getting blown the the lake we were able to land it take pictures and successfully release the fish to keep breeding those genetics.

Has one else seen one caught this size out of Owasco?

Unfortunately we didn't have the tools to weight in measure it but dealing with Kings on Ontario my entire life I can say with confidence that it was well over 15lbs.

A trophy fish for Owasco for sure. The biggest Brown I have seen come out of that lake was about 20 yrs ago and was caught by a Bass fishermen pitching a spinner bait against the south east shoreline in late spring. That sucker was a good 18 lbs. There are some monsters (all though not many) in there and you were good enough to take one. Congratulations !!

A long time ago they stocked some Seeforellen Brown Trout in Owasco (German lake dwelling browns) that were reputed to reach into the twenties....wonder if the genetics have transferred to some? Hope so they didn't fare well in Seneca. Nice fish. Maine fairly recently selected the Seeforellen strain for stocking there as a study of several strains found them to be the hardiest with high genetic integrity as well.

Great catch, this year class of browns have finally got to that double digit size. Some appear football looking like the seeforellen strain sk8man referenced. And some are that longer looking German brown style. Regardless, you have been blessed by putting in your time, looks like you made a great memory on Saturday, they are a pretty fish for sure. Congratulations on your catch and release, appreciate you sharing.

Great fish. Thanks for sharing. Must have been very exciting to fight that big brown for an hour in a small boat like that.
