Hi Guys

What speed do you typically run this time of year for the browns and steelhead? I've been running about 1.8 to 2.2 with moderate sucess. Some days are great and others I can't buy a hit?? ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks

2.1-2.5 tends to be the norm for me, but I do run it a little faster some times through clear water. or a little slower of the water is cold or if the fish are real negative

A DW, stinger, or a sutton all run differently at the same speed. A sutton may run perfect on a given day @ 2.0, and a DW @ 2.6. both should catch the same fish. Optimum speed for a particular lure may be a better way to look at it. IMO, but like Nick said, 2.1 - 2.6 is a good range for me as well. Pay attention to hits on turns, if the outside rod goes more often, they probably want it a little faster, inside rod, a little slower.

Are these GPS or down speed? My Humminbird 757 usually reads 1 mph GPS faster than downspeed no matter what depth I troll. I always watch my Subtroll to adjust my speed but sometimes I wonder if I'm too fast or slow. I can have my probe 4 feet down and my Subtroll reads 2.5 but my GPS reads 3.6. Being a novice, it's alot to think about. Any opinions by more experienced guys? Jeremy

If your subtroll is reading +1 all the time you should adjust the speed on it. Don't have time to post the precedure but it's in the directions for the unit.

Generally speaking, GPS speed will be faster than downspeed. Usually by abour .5 - 1.5 mph depending on conditions, this is my experience with GPS and Subtroll.
