Took my best buck to date this morning. Not a giant, but I was shaking after the shot……and that what it’s all about. I made a perfect heart shot at 20 yards. He trotted 15 yards from the shot, stood there for 10 seconds and fell right over. The deer died in less than 45 seconds. Couldn’t ask for anything more. Time to catch a few fish before gun opens.

Nice deerz!

Thought this am would be at least ok. Saw nothing, 1st skunk of the year. Makes seeing and having a chances at deer all more special.

It would appear bucks are on their lazy bachelor group pattern of staying out all night and getting up late. I have been seeing bucks feeding along the road at 10 am

Passed on the pretty nine tonight at 22 yards. Very pretty deer. Got a quick cell pic as he walked by.

Nice deer to pass on...he'll be a beast given time.

I just got back from the ADK, climbing and paddling with the wife. Great break before the real season kicks in, but it got me to thinking about how lucky we are in terms of deer numbers down here. We've been visiting the Saranac/High Peaks region for many years. We finally saw a buck (not a town deer like near Old Forge, but a real ADK buck) with two doe just this year. There's never any sign in the woods, at least on the trails. Or maybe I'm just so spoiled that I miss it lol.

Hard to beat the views, and when you're miles from the nearest road - well, that's special. But deer? We are truly blessed.

I had all my under garments in a wegmans bag upstairs in the house for the morning. Woke up and it was raining so chose to sleep in. Through the bag in the garage. Wife thinks its a bathroom garbage and chucks it. Don’t find it and realize it was probably in the tote until after garbage day.

Took my buck yesterday up by Rochester.     Didn’t finish the job last year so taking one early was a relief.  He was scraping and marking the whole way in and left a scrape trail 100 yds long.  He didn’t go far but I could have tracked him by his stink.

Things should be getting more exciting every day for the next few weeks.  Good luck everybody.  Be safe in those stands.812C3DCB-1BDB-4F43-B20E-D775435E57C8.thumb.jpeg.ffa84bec913338f809a1471f5bd4c5ea.jpeg2B8288DA-0FA4-4DAC-918F-FFEBEFBE1116.thumb.jpeg.69538e66d7aae09483fe9e399f3ef07a.jpeg

Was in this morning and saw what at first I thought was a black cat. As it came through it looked like a jet black mink on steroids. Was it a weasel? It was really cool to see. Probably 24 to 30 inches nose to end of tail.
