So, as the Salmon stage I believe they are relatively shallow in the am then move deeper as day continues. My Question is upon going deeper do they look for the 40 degree band or the 50- 58 degree band as the thermocline allows.

Also, should you fish the bottom where Temps are favorable.

I agree, I think when they stage, they don't really care about temperature, and may sit in warmer water, although I can imagine if it gets too extreme due to wind bringing in warm water, they may move out deeper a bit.

 

They'll then wait for the rains and cooler nights ... I believe the run is triggered by the temperature of the cooler river water when it rains.

I believe temperature is much less a factor as the fish begin they’re transition to spawning mode. The factor that will drive them deeper is light 💡 penetration. Salmonids are averse to light.
