Cayuga Any smelt reports for Cayuga yet?

Has anyone been out or heard from anyone yet who's been out for smelt this year?

Do not think there are many smelt left in the lake could be small schools but not like years ago replaced by alewife

What is a smelt again? Lol... oh yeah that's right. small tasty fish that went extinct years ago I think. Seriously though, not sure on the smelt, but seen a lot of dead and dying alewives floating around the shallows last weekend. so I know they are in.

You what smelt go to the Niagara River I believe they still get a run there

I moved here in 1991, and even then the runs were subsiding from what they had been... I doubt there are many smelt even left on cayuga... They were already in decline pretty badly when the mussels and then the gobies arrived, but those two  invasive  beasts sealed the deal.... bob

There maybe small runs into streams but are likely quick & shortly lived may come back as the circle of life comes around
